EM PATHS & TRAILS MAP

EMC HOLDINGS MAP

This map shows the land holdings of the Eagles Mere Conservancy in yellow.  (a) The large, irregular yellow area in the lower right quadrant (southeast) shows the Conservancy holdings adjacent to the outlet pond; the Conservancy cabin; a large area behind the Crestmont property, adjacent to Rainbow Farms tract; and an area extending north and west from the Conservancy cabin toward Eagles Mere Park, which also includes portions of the old railroad grade running from the old Forest Inn to the outlet pond.  (b) The large, rectangular yellow area toward the top (north) of the map comprises holdings which partially surround the Eagles Mere Park cottages, including land formerly associated with the family which owned the now-demolished Forest Inn.  (c) Also visible at the lower left corner of the lake (southwest) are the Village Green and a parcel below it known as the Dell, which runs down toward the lake.

☛Hikes depart from the Outlet Pond at 9:30 AM (for those events where we will drive north on 42 to either 154 or 220, we will meet hikers from Laporte & World’s End State Park at the junction of 154 & 220 at ~9:40). Be prepared with water, lunch, sturdy shoes, & proper clothing (such as long pants due to briers & stinging nettles). We encourage families to participate; children must be accompanied by an adult. On some hikes there may be rough terrain & bushwhacking where there is no blazed trail (so identified in hike description). Hike lengths & elevation change over 150' are estimated for each hike. Afternoon return time will depend on hike length and/or driving distances.

PETE'S EAGLES MERE RAMBLES.  ~2.5 hours introducing hikers to what the Conservancy is doing on its holdings. The hike may include a discussion and walk through of current deer exclusion areas, a demonstration plot, and the DeWeese Restoration area and interpretive trail. An introduction to the letterboxing circuit with discovery of 1-3 boxes (out of 13), a tour of a few open areas where change is being fostered to promote songbird habitats, and a walk through the unique White Pines of the Crestmont may also be included. The Conservancy student research and scholarship program will be discussed as we pass various active research sites. Trail maps and letterboxing clues will be provided. Trails used may include Rail Grade, Margaret Estey Trail, DeWeese Interpretive Trail, Green Arrow, Rainbow Trail, and possibly the Laurel Path.

TICKLISH ROCK.  A very kid-friendly 10-minute hike to Ticklish Rock. After meeting at the Outlet Pond, hikers will carpool to the start of the trail.

WORLDS END 4 MILE CIRCUT.  ~4-mile circuit hike involving the West and East Branch of the Double Run, joining the LT at Mineral Springs, then on to Canyon Vista, then back to the starting point on the X-Link trail (or possibly in reverse).  About 600' elevation change (a little steep in parts)

ANGEL FALLS. Drive to Brunnerdale Road parking area to access Loyalsock Trail. Follow LT 0.5 miles .  When the LT makes a hard right turn uphill away from the stream on your left (Ogdonia Run), break off from the LT and continue straight along the unblazed, but well-worn trail next to Ogdonia Run another 0.2 miles. At 0.7 miles into your hike, you will reach a NO CAMPING SIGN. Hike uphill along Falls Run another 0.3 miles past the sign to reach Gipson Falls. Reach Gipson Falls at approximately 1 mile into your hike. GPS coordinates for Gipson Falls: 41.39287, -76.67723. Cross over Falls Run BELOW Gipson Falls and follow the well-worn trail uphill on left side of stream another 0.1 miles to Angel Falls. Arrive at Angel Falls. GPS coordinates for Angel Falls: 41.39389, -76.67704. Hike back out along LT.

WORLDS END CABIN BRIDGE. Butternut Trail: 2.5-mile loop, more difficult hiking, orange blazes. This uneven, rocky trail originates at the east side of the Cabin Bridge and makes a circuitous loop through a northern hardwood forest. Lower Road travels parallel to and above Loyalsock Creek and crosses Butternut Run, an intermittent stream. Upper Road travels an old logging road. Butternut Vista offers a view of the Loyalsock Valley above and downstream of the park campground High Rock Trail: 1 mile trail. Red blazes mark this steep trail, which begins at the east side of the cabin bridge. An elevation gain of several hundred feet is made as the trail crosses the intermittent High Rock Run and falls and climbs upward through a maze of lichen-encrusted rocks and boulders to reach its scenic vista. The trail makes its descent through mountain laurel and hardwoods to PA 154 north of the park entrance.
